South Korea's leading messaging app operator Kakao has opened a teaser page for its voice recognition speaker called "Kakaomini" using its artificial intelligence voice assistant platform.

"Kakao's smart speaker will wake up soon," the company said in a message carried by its AI brand website together with a black-colored image of the speaker that would be released in the third quarter of this year. Users will be able to gain access to various services provided by Kakao.

AI-based voice assistants detect the voice of users and provide appropriate services such as managing schedules and searching information based on preferences.

Competition is fierce in the AI-based voice assistant industry dominated by top contenders like Apple and Amazon. South Korea's top search portal, Naver, has released a beta version of its smartphone app for artificial intelligence voice assistants.

With "Bixby", a voice assistant feature, Samsung Electronics is working on a voice recognition speaker that can connect homes with cars and offices.
