Hyundai Mobis showcases advanced autonomous driving system at CES

LAS VEGAS -- Hyundai Mobis, a leading car parts maker in South Korea, showcased M.VISION, an advanced system for a high level of autonomous driving, using powerful sensors and radars at CES 2019 in Las Vegas.

A modular self-driving kit that can accurately identify 360 degrees around is the core of M.VISION. The kit is a collection of four LiDAR sensors and five multifunctional camera sensors. LiDAR is a laser-based environment detecting system.

In demonstrating M.VISION, Mobis used five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors at the bottom of the vehicle in addition to an autonomous driving mounted on the roof to accurately recognize every situation around. Mobis has developed short, middle and long-range radars.

Mobis said in a statement that M.VISION communicates with other vehicles and pedestrians through smart lamps. Communication lighting is a technology that displays letters and icons through special displays mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle, and DMD (digital micro-mirror device) headlamps use 400,000 microscopic mirrors that adjust the headlamp light to display specific signals on the road.

As a key Hyundai Motor unit, Mobis has accelerated the development of sensors, cameras and other parts for autonomous vehicles and infotainment. In October last year, Mobis unveiled an adaptive smart headlamp, which efficiently stops a high beam mode from blinding drivers coming from the opposite direction. Smart lamps increase visibility for safe driving at night or in low-light condition.

Using an advanced driver-assistant system that collects data from cameras, sensors and radars to analyze on-road conditions, the company has tested a level 3 automation system. Level 3 provides self-driving features such as lane keeping assistant and highway driving assistant. Level 4 requires no input from a driver if there is no dangerous situation.
